He (God) only see the heart…Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton
I would like to start this report by thanking all the Women’s Club Members who have donated their talents, time, and resources to the various events that we have hosted so far this year. You are an amazing group of women who work hard and have fun doing it to make each event a success.
Some of our Spiritual Events that we have celebrated this year include the Mass for Deceased Members in November and Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton’s Feast Day Mass with Communion Breakfast in January. The Day of Prayer, held in February was moderated by Sister Kathleen Adamski and was very well attended. We truly enjoyed listening to Sister speak on her topic “Be Not Afraid.”
The proceeds from our three Annual Fundraising events benefit our Grants Program: The Arts and Crafts Festival, The Boutique Auction, and the Fashion Show. The deadline for this year’s Grants applications was 4:00 PM, Wednesday, February 21, 2024. The Grants Committee is in the process of reviewing the applications and they will announce the recipients at the April General Meting to be voted on by the club members.
The Arts and Crafts Festival held in October was a rousing success. We had 60+ vendors, three-fourths who have already signed up for the 2024 Festival. The Boutique Auction had it’s best year yet. We made $2,000 more than last year! The “All That Glitters” Fashion Show was another sold-out fabulous event including exciting fashions from Pawleys Island Wear and Affordables. We had oodles of Gift Baskets and Silent Auction items for attendees to bid on.
The Ways and Means Committee held three very successful fundraisers: an Amaryllis Bulb sale, the “Souper” Bowl Dinner and the Irish Soda Bread Sale. These funds help with the running of the club.
For fun we continued to hold Sip N’ Chat’s once a month at a member’s home where we eat, drink and chat. It’s a wonderful way to get to know each other and develop lasting relationships.
We once again visited Mepkin Abbey to see the beautiful Creches submitted from around the world in November. The creativity and attention to detail on each of them are amazing.
Our Spring filed trip this year is a tour of the Hopsewee Plantation on April 18th which includes a tour of the home, a Gullah Geechee Presentation, and a Tea/Lunch.
We will be hosting a Lenten Simple Supper, Friday, March 22nd at 5:00 PM at Founders Hall followed by Mary’s Way of the Cross (Stations) at 6:00 PM.
Lastly, we are planning, on May 9th, a Mary’s Walk with Father Paul at Brookgreen Gardens. Father will lead us in praying the Rosary, a walk through the Gardens and a Continental Breakfast will be served. We’re praying for no rain that day!
The Women’s Club is a great way to meet your “forever friends”. We are a great group of women who really care about each other and our community. We pray, work, lunch, laugh and sometimes cry together.
Personally I would like to thank everyone for their prayers and all of the beautiful cards I received during my surgery and recovery. I wonder if the Drs know that they have our wonderful Prayer Warriors standing over their shoulders??
Hope to see you all at our upcoming events.
